Luther was born and raised in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He got his start in dog mushing at the age of 19 when, after learning of the 'The Last Great Race' from a friend, he got his first sled and adopted two retired Iditarod dogs. He recalls anxiously counting down the minutes until class was out so he could hit the local ski trails with his new team, daily. He was instantly addicted and wanted more. Luther moved to Fairbanks in the Fall of 2013 to pursue his mushing dreams. In 2016 he ran his first race, the Copper Basin 300, with a team of dogs he had raised. The following winter he was hired by Matt Hall and Smokin' Ace Kennels to help Matt train his 2017 Yukon Quest Champion dog team. Luther also helped train Smokin Ace's young core with Amanda and raced a team of their yearlings in the 2017 Two Rivers 200.
